Climate change and the energy-water nexus

COP17 started off in something of a whirlwind. As it is my first COP, day 1 provided its challenge, looking for programmes, venues, stalls and side events. After the first few hours of chaos the day settled down somewhat, and I even managed to find my way to my first negotiation session.

The start of day 2 was accompanied with a more focussed approach, by drawing upon my one day of COP experience. Daily programmes were found with a great deal more ease, and the press reports provided me with a good summary of the previous day’s happenings, of which a number had been missed. Importantly, I was able to begin my investigation of the online casino energy-water nexus in the context of climate change. That said, whilst many of the countries did not have any formal casino online projects addressing this online casino problem, they were able to provide insights into the nexus in their countries and how climate change may exacerbate this.

My first side event, held by the water research commission, whilst not quite what I had expected, proved helpful in informing me about the modelling of the impacts of climate change on water resources in southern Africa. The rest of the day was spent exploring a variety of other side events.

The end of day 2 is drawing near and whilst I have not found the answers to my investigation in one convenient box, perhaps this is indicative of the challenge we are facing. I shall nevertheless continue on my search.
