Andrew Janisch

Andrew-JanischIt is with great sadness that we learnt today of the sudden death of Andrew Janisch on Friday 29 July.

Andrew was known to many of us through his work at Sustainable Energy Africa and as a key member of the Energy and Climate Change team at the City of Cape Town for the past two years.

His sudden and unexpected passing is a tremendous loss for us all in the energy and climate change fields, but our loss is surely dwarfed by that felt by his young family and close friends.

Our heartfelt condolences go to all his family and friends.
Andrew will be missed.

  1. Condolences too from WESSA staff at the Sanctuary, Kirstenhof.
Regrettable loss of a good mind and character exactly at the time when we most needed his skills in and passion for renewable energy.

  2. I am devastated at this news. What a terrible loss for all of us. Such a wonderfully intelligent, compassionate and creative spirit. My heart goes out to his wife, children and friends. All love and strength

  3. Andrew’s untimely death has shocked us this week and we hope that the work he accomplished will continue to inspire positive change in our city and country. Combining his passion for music, engineering and renewable energy, Andrew left a valuable legacy for his children and their generation. And future ones.

Zipplie’s “Bending the Curve 2011” featured an article by him with practical suggestions for parents wanting to lead by example in an effort to help tackle carbon change in South Africa.

And his song “Get your piece of the sun” demonstrates his ability to creatively confront the underlying issues in society with intelligent humour and an air of calm. We hope this approach and message go far.

Our hearts go out to all the family and those closest to him – RIP Andy…

  4. This is devastating news. I only knew him a year ago and what a wonderful soul he was. He will be greatly missed because this country has lost a visionary and his family has lost a protector. My sincere condolences to the family and close friends.

  5. Andrew was the kind of humble leader with a capacity for genius =intelligence and creativity. He made the decision to work to help prevent Climate Change and consciously put all his energy into trying to make a difference as apposed to just passively complaining about it. He is a great example to us all. He will be dearly missed. Get Your Piece of The Sun was an example of his songwriting skills, and was a fun project. However, I would like to point out that he recorded several albums of very profound songs which remain relevant in this time. “Handmade”- with his band Woodshed and “Moved to Change”- a solo album by Andrew Janisch. The albums can be ordered in time by contacting andiandi@mweb.co.za. This music is part of his legacy.
